Wedding Traditions
Sumi Fujimoto (Great-uncle of the bride) will be giving a 'Banzai' toast during the reception. This toast typically consists of a relative of the bride or groom leading the guests in 3 loud toasts of 'Banzai!' for
the bride and groom. Banzai is a Japanese cheer that can be translated as "Hurray!" or "Long life!". It is usually repeated 3 times to celebrate a victory or applaud a happy occasion.
Oragami cranes will be used as part of the reception decorations. The crane is viewed as a symbol of longevity and prosperity in Japanese culture. It is often a custom for a bride and her family to fold 1,001 gold cranes
to bring good fortune, longevity, and peace to the marriage.
